Mojito Recipe

Here's the lowdown for a classic mojito that would make Papa Hemingway tip his hat:

  • 2oz/60ml white rum I lean towards a light, Cuban variety, but any quality white rum will do the trick.
  • 1oz/30ml fresh lime juice:** No shortcuts here – squeeze those limes with a whole lot of love.
  • 2 tsp sugar: White sugar's the go-to, but feel free to dabble with simple syrup or honey.
  • 6-8 mint leaves: Freshness is the name of the game! Give them a gentle bruise to unleash their aromatic oils.
  • Soda water: Top it all off with those effervescent bubbles.
  • Ice:Crushed ice is your ticket to that perfect frosty texture.

 Now, let the magic unfold:

1.Muddle the mint and sugar in a highball glass – no need to pulverize, just coax those flavors out.

  1. Squeeze in the lime juice and introduce the rum to the party.
  2. Fill that glass with crushed ice.
  3. Top it all off with soda water and give it a subtle stir.
  4. Garnish with a mint sprig

History in a Highball: Where did the Mojito come from?

The mojito's roots are as mysterious as a perfectly executed daiquiri, with whispers of 16th-century pirates sipping a similar concoction to fend off scurvy. Fast forward to the 20th century, and Havana claimed it as its own, with even Hemingway becoming a devoted mojito enthusiast. And you know what they say – the rest is liquid history.

Indulge in creative mojito variations for a personalized twist. The Caiprioska switches rum for vodka and omits mint, offering a refreshing take on the classic. Alternatively, infuse your mojito with your favorite fruits, whether it be berries, mango, watermelon, or pineapple, for a tropical escapade bursting with vibrant flavors.
